Can’t delete email using Apple Watch mail app

Hello,

whether it’s swipe left or scrolling to the action menu within an email I cannot delete an email with the native mail app on Apple Watch series 8 with watchOS 9. The swipe action only has archive and flag and the red delete button within an email is missing. Any insight on why

Are you using Gmail or Google Workspace accounts and encountering these issues? Google-managed accounts archive deleted messages by default instead of actually moving them to trash. You'll need to change the setting in iOS first to make the Google-managed accounts in the Watch Mail app delete a message instead of archive it.

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > [account name] > [account name] > Advanced. Under "Move discarded messages into" select "Deleted Mailbox". The Trash swipe action should now show up both on the iOS and watchOS Mail app.

If you still can't use this properly, it might take a few minutes to sync. Otherwise, a force sync by pairing and unpairing can help as a last resort. This should fix the issue in either case. Let us know how it goes and have a great day!

It was a Gmail account, non-workspace version. I did have the "deleted mailbox" setting in place on my iPhone as I remembered this being an issue with the iOS mail app a while back. I reverted the setting to "archive, saved, then went back in and rechecked deleted Mailbox but no luck. Rebooted phone, watch, trying to force sync to no avail. Finally had to go nuclear and unpair and repair and that did the trick. Hopefully the setting holds as it was working until it wasn't and it's not as if I changed anything on the iPhone side. Thanks for the help on the matter!
