Background Noise Stops When Using Air Pod Pro 2

When I travel, I use my iPad's Speaker/Background Noise feature to play white noise to help mask hotel noises. The iPad noise transmits through its speaker and plays all night.

Recently I purchased the Air Pod Pro 2s and kept a bud in one ear--the one that's not pressed against my pillow (I'm a side sleeper). Bluetooth is connected and I can hear the iPad's background noise through the bud but after several hours, the noise in the bud stops. The buds have enough charge so it's not that. When I look at the iPad after waking up, the Background Noise "button" indicates that the noise is off. Any idea how to correct this? The background noise through the bud is much better than an earplug and I like the noise being transmitted directly into my ear vs. having it come from the iPad's speaker. Thanks

Hi Hiker_Bill,

You can check to see if the setting is enabled to stop the background noise when the iPad is locked. Here are instructions for locating that setting:

  1. "Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Background Sounds, then turn on Background Sounds.
  2. Set any of the following:
    • Sound: Choose a sound; the audio file downloads to your iPad.
    • Volume: Drag the slider.
    • Use When Media is Playing: Adjust the volume of the background sound when iPad is playing music or other media.
    • Stop Sounds When Locked: Background sounds stop playing when iPad is locked."

Also of note is that the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) are listed with the following specs for battery life:

"AirPods Pro

  • Up to 6 hours of listening time with a single charge (up to 5.5 hours with Spatial Audio and Head Tracking enabled)"

AirPods Pro (2nd generation) - Technical Specifications - Apple

So even with the AirPods Pro fully charged, the battery life may not be sufficient to cover a whole night of sleep.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot Jeff. I will try this over the weekend. Your comment on the listening time makes sense, but what's puzzling to me is that after the noise has stopped and I get up, when I look at the remaining battery for the single bud I've been wearing, it's more than 40% (though I will pay closer attention to the exact number this weekend). Stay tuned and have a great weekend.

Bill
