IOS 16.6 iPhone Keyboard

Hi All,

I just switched from Samsung Galaxy S21 to iPhone 14 Pro.

As I am getting used to the iOS functionality, I noticed that the keyboard is pretty limited compared to the one I used on Android.

As you can see in the image, the keyboard I used on the Android, has ascent characters which could be accessed by long pressing the key. This is an intuitive design as it saves the click on the 123 button.

I tried downloading other keyboards from the app store, including the SwiftKey by Microsoft, which is the one I used in the picture on Android - but none offers the ascent characters.

I was wondering why this option is not available on iOS?

Is it a limitation of the OS or a restriction by Apple?

Thanks

Eyal

The iPhone default keyboard doesn't offer such functionality, but the iPadOS keyboard does. There is nothing preventing app developers from designing their custom keyboards and releasing them on the App Store (see Creating a custom keyboard | Apple Developer Documentation).

Sorry there isn't a more straightforward answer right now. You can also suggest this to the iPhone team using the Feedback - iPhone - Apple page. If a lot of customers want that option and communicate it, there is a higher chance you might see it on a future iOS update.
