Problem with NFC reader in iPhone 14 Pro

My iPhone 14 Pro is running the latest iOS. Apple Pay and Express Mode for public transport work fine.

However, I need to provide identification for an e-signature app, where I have to scan my passports data page and the chip inside the passport.

When the camera starts to scan the passport, it's on a high zoom lens and I have to hold the passport more than an arms length away from the camera in order to scan the entire page in one go. Then I need to hold the iPhone to the cover page in order to read the data from the chip, but the iPhone seems to not be able to detect that chip.

I also downloaded the Biometric Passport Reader app from the app store. There the camera zoom is off, so that seems to be a specific problem of the other app, but reading the chip doesn't work here either.

Using the same apps on my old iPhone X Pro, both can recognize and read the chip quickly and without any problems.

As far as I know, there is no need to turn on NFC on the iPhone 14 Pro, as it should always be activated? And as I sayd, Apple Pay works fine, though maybe there are different components for receivingand sending NFC data? But then, I would think that the iPhone also needs to recognize when it is near a card reader in order to send the payment data.

Contact a third-party app developer

NFC | Apple Developer Documentation

If you encounter any challenges with third-party applications, the best course of action is to directly contact the app developer for further assistance. Here's a brief guide on how to do it:

  1. Identify the app developer.
  2. Visit their website or app store listing.
  3. Look for their contact information or support channels.
  4. Clearly describe the issue you are facing.
  5. Provide any necessary information they may need.
  6. Follow their instructions and provide feedback.
  7. Be patient and follow up if needed.

By reaching out to the app developer, you increase your chances of receiving accurate and personalized support for the challenges you're experiencing. To contact an App developer --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

Hi Brandis13, I just used the app you're referencing and it seems to be working alright on an iPhone 14 Pro Max. You might want to reach out to the developer for support? They should know their products best and might even be able to help with diagnostics. See How to contact an app developer - Apple Support. Let us know if they're helpful!

Another route would be to chat with Apple Support to run diagnostics if needed. Get started here: https://getsupport.apple.com. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
