Find My doesn't work with just the MacBook?

Hey guys. I had my AirPods Pro for almost 6 months now. I don't own an iPhone nor an iPad. The Airpods used to show up on the "Find My" app on the MacBook until I clicked forget device to reset it. The AirPods don't show up on there, no matter how many times I reset it. It might be something to do with my MacBook because I borrowed my friend's Airpods, and they don't show up on my MacBook either. I then saw websites about switching the Find My Network off and on on the iPhone, so I borrowed my friend's iPhone and signed in with my Apple ID. Suddenly, the Airpods showed up on my MacBook Find My app. So when I signed out of the iPhone to use my MacBook as usual, I saw that the devices disappeared from the Find My app again. Is there a setting I should change so it works normally with my Macbook without an iPhone?
