Phone says my unlock passcode is wrong

So I need to change my password to my Apple ID. It asks for the code I use to unlock my phone. I enter it and it says it is wrong. The code is correct and I can unlock my phone with no problems. It is only when trying to update my password it does this. Been told “too many failed attempts” a couple times now. iPhone 10 if I remember correctly. This is absurd.

Hi! I used to get this problem before, and I get rid of it now.

Here is some tips:

  1. Restart iPhone, and try again.
  2. You can also try to change the lock screen passcode. Go to Settings and Face ID&Passcode, and change the passcode. Then try again to change Apple ID password.
  3. You can change Apple ID password on iCloud.com, this may be successfull to change password: Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

I spoke with Apple support and they had me reset my AppleID password using a web link instead of my phone: https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid


Then I was able to use this new password to access the update my payment method section on my phone.


It's annoying to have to update my password, but at least it works. I didn't have to make any changes to my passcode.

If you haven't we recommend that you try to change your password on the web.

Had same password forget issue after I redid my face ID. The solution that worked for me is going to settings -- iCloud-- sign in and security and changing the password from there. Then the same old iPhone passcode for verification worked that wasn't working on App store. After changing new iCloud password, go back to app store to download and type in password, voila! Hope it helps

Passcode if I remember correctly. It says something like "enter passcode that you use to unlock your phone."

I got it taken care of but no I was not using the steps you described. It was Settings>Update payment information (option appears when payments do not go through. It is not normally an option)>forgot password. It then asks you to verify who you are with the passcode you use to unlock your phone. That pass code was not working for some reason. I did change my password through my computer and got my payment info updated. I swear companies make it so complicated to pay them,one would think they don't want our money!

Anyway, pretty annoying bug with the password change.

Having the idebtical issue. Passscode needed to change password and apple insists my paccode is correct. I can **** the phone down then restart and unlock with passcode then attempt to change password and receive verification error as apppevindists passcode is wrong?! Then aborts password reset and I’m completely stuck! I even changed the Passcose and tried the newly reset passcode number apple says “incorrect verification failed forgot passcode? (No man uiu have! Frustrated beyond measure. Seems like the initial password was probably correct as well. I can be positive but of. The passcode I know I am entering a correct passcode quick is repeatedly being rejected by verification fir password change.


running iOS 17.02 installing new update to see what f this is a perhaps a bug (gotta be) maybe update will correct!

I’m having the same issue. There is an app we use for my daughter’s softball team. The app isn’t the best and updating properly so each season we have to delete it, and then redownload it.

So I went through that process, tried to download it from the cloud. It said my payment needed updated. Everything was correct … so I just removed my card and added it back, it still wouldn’t let me do it. It says my password (that I used for something else the same day was wrong ) then to change it… it’s asking for the unlock number… I put it in and it says it’s wrong and I know without a shadow of a doubt that it’s right …

it still won’t let me download the app.

I buy a $25 iTunes card and put it on there … (the app is free) but my Apple Music isn’t … but yet nothing is coming off of that either.

im trying to change my password it’s saying all my info im giving them is wrong when its right in front of me … I am getting frustrated ! It has been 8 days of me trying to get this resolved … what the heck is going on Apple ???

I have this too, now. It says it was having some issues with cloud synching then wanted my password and pin number. It rejects my pin number, even though it's correct and I used it to get into my phone. Very very frustrating. Nervous about trying a reboot in case it fails again and I am locked out. (About to travel and that would be a disaster.)
