Phone says my unlock passcode is wrong

So I need to change my password to my Apple ID. It asks for the code I use to unlock my phone. I enter it and it says it is wrong. The code is correct and I can unlock my phone with no problems. It is only when trying to update my password it does this. Been told “too many failed attempts” a couple times now. iPhone 10 if I remember correctly. This is absurd.

Hi! I used to get this problem before, and I get rid of it now.

Here is some tips:

  1. Restart iPhone, and try again.
  2. You can also try to change the lock screen passcode. Go to Settings and Face ID&Passcode, and change the passcode. Then try again to change Apple ID password.
  3. You can change Apple ID password on iCloud.com, this may be successfull to change password: Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Where is the solution to this?? I’ve been carrying two phones because now I can only take calls and text on one and have to access my apps needed for work on the other because I can’t sent up my id on my new phone. I’ve been on the phone with customer service to get my account unblocked only to be sent into the same loop. Please provide a solution for this bug!

This keeps happening to me! I don't know why it keeps saying that my passcode is wrong when I need to change passwords! That is literally how I signed in to write this comment, yet when I need to sign in to my Apple ID, it won't let me!

This is important, as I am likely to lose a lot of data if I can't sign in.

I just really wonder how this system was designed with such an error.

Same problem here in September 2024. I actually went to reset my apple ID password just to see if I was even getting that part wrong and had to conclude I was getting it right all along. I knew my iPhone passcode was correct because I type it a million times every single day like everyone else (and I still locked and unlocked the screen to check).

I just deleted Apple music in the end.

Has anyone found a solution to this yet? I have tried all the above suggestions, none of them worked. I have been forced into the account recovery process and Apple won't let me progress that for another 5 days. This is for a work account, so not being able to used my Apple ID to put necessary apps on my phone for 5 days is a real problem.

My issue is the same as the original posters. I can't remember my work Apple ID password. My phone reset and so i am not already signed in to my Apple ID. I have tried to use the reset option via the Apple Support App on another phone. I am able to enter the phone number, get the security code and enter it, but then it asks me to provide the passcode for my work phone and it only allows me to enter 4 digits. My passcode has 6 digits. I have restarted to phone, same problem. I reset the passcode. Same problem. I tried to reset the password through iCloud. It says I need to do account recovery. Surely Apple has found a fix for this by now?
