This message is popping up on my husband’s iPad. What is it and how do I disable it or better, turn it off?

Message:

Apple Watch Keyboard Keyboard Input

Enter text on your Apple Watch using your iOS keyboard. Press to type.

More info:

His watch is an older model and he is never doing anything with it when this message appears on the top of the iPad screen like a notification. It is always black until he rotates his arm and then it’s the normal face. It’s driving him a little batty. What is activating, turned on or otherwise compromised and how do I stop it? Thanks!

This is normally an aid to entering passwords or text using your iphone for older watches without their own keyboard. I had no idea it worked with ipads!

On the ipad go to Settings, Notifications and turn off the one for Apple Watch Keyboard.

The watch being black until wrist is raised is normal, however as a precaution force restart the Watch

i.e. press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.
