From one day to the next, Messages has totally disappeared from my dock. I can still access it by typing Messages in the Search box, but that is getting old quick... Anyone know how this happened and/or how to rectify?

Apps can be removed from the Home Screen without being deleted. Go to the App Library (swipe left past your last home screen). From there you can touch and hold an app and slide it to the home screen and then to the dock.
Also note the Search window at the top of the App Library.

Ok, I tried that, but the whole widget moved over to home screen, not just Messages.
I then tried the Search option, which brought up just Messages, which I could then press+hold+drag...
