Mac Air not connecting to internet

If my Mac sits idle for a few hours it will not connect to the internet. My wife's Mac air (Newer than mine) works fine. My iPhone also connect via my wifi. Can't figure out why just this machine. I normally use Safari but because some web sites don't like it, I also have a Firefox access. Neither works. My conclusion is that some setting somewhere is doing this. I have turned off the sleep functions etc and it makes no difference. I thought I had found the problem when I turned off Duck Duck Go, but then it started doing the same thing again.

All programs not needing internet access work fine.

When I reboot it works OK and is as speedy as ever. The worst is, as we have all experienced, it does not happen all the time, So trying to tie it to a particular setting is an enigma.

Any suggestions appreciated. I am a user, not a coder, so keep it simple. There is no longer an apple store in my area. My tech support would be the Geek Squad, so I am happy to try turning stuff off and on to avoid that.

This is an older Mac Air Pro (model a1425) running macOS 10.15.7 I have always kept the software updated.

First, restart your modem and router.

Try "Forgetting this network..." and rebuilding the connection from scratch.

If that doesn't fix the problem, consider replacing the router.

My wife's iPad did this and the only fix was a newer router capable of supporting more devices simultaneously;

Thanks. I've done these things, but not in the last couple weeks. The router I have is from my ISP and is supposed to be able to handle 120+ devices. I only have 10. As I think back, though, this may have started when I had my furnace/AC replaced and they put in a wifi enabled thermostat. The next time I have trouble, I may try taking that off the network and see if that does anything. In truth, though, I think it is something in my Mac Book software. I may try reloading that too.
