Mac Studio + Ventura - Frequent Safari/WiFi hangs. Only solution seems to be toggling wifi.
I have a 2022 Mac Studio (M1 Max) and frequently throughout the day the Safari subsystem hangs. The symptoms are:
- Safari can not load any pages
- Can not open any apps (ex. Chrome) that have some kind of web component. Get a MacOS error message that the "operation could not be completed" 60-90 seconds after attempting to open the app
While this is happening the following is true
- Low level networking is fine - I can ping, nslookup, traceroute, ssh, etc. to all expected locations
- If a video call was in progress, the call continues as if nothing is wrong
If I wait 10-20 minutes the problem will naturally resolve itself. However, if I need an immediate solution I can toggle the wifi off and then back on again, after which Safari begins to open pages properly and any app which I could not open works again.
Things I have tried:
- Reinstalling MacOS
- Factory reset on my WiFi access point (an Eero)
- Deleting the WiFi connection and recreating
Other things that may be of interest
- There is another 2022 MacBook Pro (M1 Max) in the house that never experiences this.
- No other devices connected to the network have ever experienced this as far as I can tell. This includes: AppleTV, HomePods of various types, Ring doorbell, Intel MacBooks, Net Cameras, Sonos speakers, etc.
I keep waiting hoping that the next OS release resolves the issue, but no luck so far. Beyond what I've described above, is there anything else folks here can recommend to try?
