Stuck in a loop resetting Apple ID

I seem to be stuck in a loop when trying to reset my Apple ID password.

I provide the email, the trusted phone number and my bank details via Iforgot- but it says it will contact me via the email linked to my Apple ID.

here lies the problem, I made that email many moons ago and do not have access any longer ( I have tried!!)

i select the cannot access email option and they say they will send a text to my trusted number but nothing comes through?

I have the same phone number that is my ‘trusted one’ - in a brand new iPhone that I set up with a brand new Apple ID cause I’m at my wits end.

id really like this unlocked so I can sell on my old phone and Apple Watch (which is a trusted device in itself but the resets don’t work via that cause again, wants the password that I don’t know!!)

Any ideas or is it a lost cause?

Hi stine183,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! If you are unable to receive a verification code then the next step would be account recovery as listed below that can help:

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

If you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery to regain access to your account. Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.

It's important to follow a few steps closely as you wait for account recovery to process. If you don't you could be canceling account recovery without realizing it. Per Change the watch face on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

  • If you submitted your account recovery request with iforgot.apple.com through your device's browser, you should avoid using that device during this period. Using that device might cancel account recovery.
  • To avoid delays, turn off other devices that are signed in with your Apple ID until account recovery is complete.

Also keep in mind account recovery is a two-phase process once started. Phase 1 is the evaluation period, usually 24-72 hours but can be longer or shorter. This phase says Apple is evaluating your info and you’ll get an update after the posted time is over (people mistakenly think it means they’ll be able to reset the password immediately after this first phase.)

Once phase 1 is done it enters phase 2 where https://iforgot.apple.com/ will give you the final number of days (can be weeks) you’ll wait. On that final day you’ll get a text, follow that text immediately.
