Apple Pay got restricted

So about a week ago my Apple Pay got restricted. A few other people I talked to said that it also happened to them. I called apple support and spoke with a really nice lady and she told me that they will review my account and if everything was ok that it would be working again within 48 hrs. So 72 hours later I called again because it was still restricted. I spoke to someone and asked if they figured out the problem and when would I be able to use it again ( because I use it for EVERYTHING). She told me, after reviewing my account that they decided to not lift the restriction. I asked why and how much longer was it going to be. She informed me that she could not tell me what was wrong and that it will be restricted FOREVER!! I said well if you can't tell me why, I would like to speak to someone who can. She said there was no need to escalate the call because she told me that my account will always be restricted. I said BUT I want to know why and since you can't tell me could you please have someone email me explaining why and she kinda chuckled and said no, we don't do that. I'm so freaking frustrated it's unreal!!!

It sounds as though you violated the terms and conditions of your account. Apple Cash accounts are issued and serviced by Green Dot Bank. You were speaking to an Apple Cash Specialist at Green Dot. Apple is not a bank.

>>If your Apple Cash account is restricted

Your account may be restricted if your identity verification fails multiple times, if there are multiple accounts tied to the same social security number, or if there's suspected fraud on the account. If your account is restricted, you can still transfer your Apple Cash balance to your bank or use it to make purchases with Apple Pay. You can't send or receive money, or add money to your account.<<

I suspect the large $2600 transfer may have triggered a flag on your account and they are investigating.

Apple is not a bank. Apple Cash is a service that’s administered by Green Dot Bank. Banks are required by federal banking regulations to identify their customers. The Patriot Act requires that lenders, banks etc obtain a confirmed ID.

>>“To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver's license or other identifying documents.”<<

Banks are prevented by the Bank Secrecy Act from providing specific details as to why your account is permanently restricted/closed. Banks are inspected regularly to verify they are in compliance.

Federal statutes actually prevent the bank from revealing the issue(s) with your account. The statutes are designed to detect patterns that money launderers and other fraudulent actors do to commit fraud. The New York Times ran a big article on this a month ago or so. You may need to create an account to access the article.

This happened to me as well. I woke up today to my Apple Cash being restricted. No idea why. Called in and got the same information as everyone else we can’t tell you why but banned. I don’t do anything shady or weird. My husband and I send money to each other for groceries and I send my niece and nephew money for college things at times and I owed my mom 2600 for a trip recently. None of us do shady things with money. I’ve maintained ALL of my finances perfectly. This is extremely baffling. I did not do any disputes etc. I used my account and transfers the same over several years nothing different. Honestly makes no sense.

Im in the same issue currently. My bank did something in which wasn’t my fault. I contacted Apple letting them know what happen and they are not bothering to help. I ask if I can contact the bank and they reach out to Apple but Apple was like no that will not help. So my account is restricted forever which is so stupid because I’m trying to fix the issue and they are not bothering to help me.
