A "genuine" Apple shop would be one that is listed as an Apple Authorized Reseller. You can verify if this particular shop is one of those by using this link and going to your country.

Did they also explain how you were to make such a warranty claim without any Proof of Purchase from Apple or an Apple-Authorized Reseller ? 🤔

I doubt if Apple is in the business of handing-out genuine components in exchange for counterfeits.
