Mac Pro 5.1 Tower fails to boot up anymore

Thank you for correcting my errors, GDA......appreciated.

I was in panic mode and literally had a cold sweat on when the Mac Pro didn't boot up properly. Dazed and confused and very much concerned, especially when my Mac knowledge has obviously slipped in recent years.

I really am at a loss on what to do about this latest error.

Again, thank you so much for your time, knowledge and expertise in this sh*t situation I find myself in.

You mention the cheapest is the Mac-Firmware GT120 card.

Is this the kinda type you mean please?

All I seem to find are pre-owned around the £20-£30 mark.

Yet the graphics card in my Mac and was shipped with the Mac is the AMD/ATI 5770...see images.

Is it worth trying the Graphics card in a slot above?

Is this a simple case of unwiring/uncoupling and moving up a slot please?

how to I keep it suspended if it can be moved up please?

At present I am using an old Dell monitor that is triggered to turn on by the Mac.

Images here are how the monitor is connected to the back of the Mac and the Dell's info.

A Seller on eBay has offered me a 5770 for £30. Is the 5770 a better option over the GT120 please?

Though I will check it is Mac Firmwared.

Does the mini display/thunderbolt cable purchase needed to be done? Is it a necessity?

On the GT120 card, it only comes with 1 port and I will need two.

Is this the one and what do I do with it please?

Because the monitor is not displaying anything I can't see when the Mac has loaded and gives me the window to sign in.

Plus, I don't know what the shortcut you mean and actually does?

When I watch the TV through the Mac, I go to preferences and select sound to choose TV and then go to Display and select Sony.

Then it takes a few seconds for it to show on the TV screen.

The TV is connected to the Mac via an HDMI cable that connects to a Thunderbolt adapter into the port connected to the Mac where you noticed it.

So there is no image on the TV, so it is safe to say the 5770 has died and needs replacing???

Apart from the secondhand 5770, I am a little confused in what I am purchasing right now as you mention another cable.

Please can you advise?

But it is fair to say I will buy the 5770 and do a straight swap.

Do I need to get the adaptor you mentioned (mini display/thunderbolt cable) in an earlier comment please? Is it needed and make things any better please?

Yes, it maybe but I have known certain Sellers to mislead in recent times.

Don't want to waste time and returning item fees, when a simple question can cut alot of money wasting.

Being a 1 parent Daddy on low wages, I have to be vigilant. I have learnt many lessons dealing with eBayers.

By the way, these 5770 are being sold without a cable. I presume the cable will do a straight swap, but what are the chances the cable is broken?

I have just purchased a Mac ready HD 5770 for £20.00.

So we'll see how it goes when I get it and install it.

This is the drive presently inside which was what I was told to purchase many moons ago, when I came on here saying my Mac was taking an age to boot up with it's original drive.

Sorry but itis not a G5, my error compleletly.

It is a 2009 Mac Pro Tower.
