Cannot transfer music to iPod 7th gen

My music will not transfer to my new iPod 7th gen. All music titles show in light grey text. I read that the music plays from icloud. That is fine when i am on my network. How do I play music in my auto if it doesn't pphysically get to the iPod.

Windows, Windows 10

Hello AZNorb,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. To sync music to your iPod touch, you'll need to download the music. This is a step that may help you in your situation. Here's how:

Download music from Apple Music to your iPod touch
* Download a song, album, or playlist: Touch and hold music you’ve added to your library, then tap
Download.
After you’ve added a playlist or album, you can also tap the Download button at the top of the screen.

Note: You must turn on Sync Library to download music from Apple Music to your library (go to Settings  > Music, then turn on Sync Library).

* Always download music: Go to Settings > Music, then turn on Automatic Downloads.
Songs you add are automatically downloaded to iPod touch.

* See download progress: On the Library screen, tap Downloaded Music, then tap Downloading.
Note: If the music you’re downloading is available in Dolby Atmos, the Dolby button  appears next to the item, and you can download it either in Dolby Atmos or in stereo. To download music in Dolby Atmos when available, go to Settings  > Music, then turn on Download in Dolby Atmos. See Listen to Dolby Atmos music on iPod touch.

Following these steps may help and is outlined in this article: Add music to iPod touch and listen offline - Apple Support

Kind regards.

Hi AZNorb,

We apologize for not pointing this out. In Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support, there’s a note at the bottom of the page that reads “Sync Library is also available with an iTunes Match subscription."

To play your songs while you’re in your car without a network, you should see a an ellipsis (...) next to the songs in your iTunes Match library. When you tap it, one of the options should be “Download” which will make your music available while you’re driving.

Cheers.

Thanks for trying to help. I don't use Apple Music. I use iTunes Match. My library is on iTunes. It consists of purchased music and music I have ripped from numerous CD's. I have also converted several hundred LP's using an editor and cleanup software. My library is 10600 songs and growing. That is why I bought a touch with the largest capacity. I still have LP's to convert.

Thanks I will keep this in mind.

I came across an article regarding loading my library. It suggested on the ipod turning off sync and on the PC with the ipod connected turning off the automatic sync. Once I did this it gave me the option to sync manually. I highlighted the whole library and dragged it to he ipod icon. The whole music library transferred. Took awhile. Checked the storage detail and it showed the space on the ipod was indeed used. I turned off the network and played a song. So with the network off, the song played. What I did notice that for some reason or other four albums showed in gray text while everything else was in regular text. The four albums were ripped from CD's as were many many others. Those songs played in itunes from the master library. They played on the ipod with the network on or off. They wouldn't play in itunes from the "music" list of the ipod.

Not quite sure what this indicates.

In addition, I turned sync back on for the ipod. I got a message that if I selected to do this, the music currently on the ipod would be deleted and downloaded from the itunes match library.. If I left it alone, the music would come from the itunes library on the PC. So now I am happy and confused at the same time.

I plan in the next few days to convert some more LP's. Once added to the PC itunes library, will they sync with the ipod? I guess I will see.

Again thanks for your help. I may be back.
