How to regain control of text message direction on my iPhone 11

I went to reply to a text message on my iphone 11. I found it was in the landscape/horizontal position. I usually us the portrait setting but can use the landscape just by turning my phone. Somehow, it is stuck in the landscape position. I didn't set it to do that unless I pushed something by accident. how can get it back to the portrait position. I tried a couple things but they have not work'd.

Thank you

Hello Rancheros2023,

Is this only happening in Messages, or other apps as well? If the screen isn't rotating as expected, let's make sure the screen orientation isn't locked. Please check out this link, which explains how to check that, and may help: Change or lock the screen orientation on iPhone

Lock or unlock the screen orientation

You can lock the screen orientation so that it doesn’t change when you rotate iPhone.
Open Control Center, then tap the Lock Orientation button.
When the screen orientation is locked, the Lock Orientation icon appears in the status bar (on supported models).

Thanks!
