Satechi USB-C Multiport adapter not showing image on M2 screen
BUT
Ventura scolds when the adapter is removed without deleting.
I have searched all the applications I can imagine apply
without
finding any evidence that the Macbok Air M2 knows it is there.
This is Ventura 13.2 on Macbook Air with M2 chip.

What image is not showing up: the dock or the items plugged into the dock?
It the dock self powered?
How many items are plugged in and what type for items are they, i.e. SSDs, HDDs, self powered or buss powered?
If it's the items plugged into the dock, do you see them when they are plugged directly into the MBA?
Without knowing the answers to the above questions one guess is that it might be that the items are drawing too much power that the one port the dock is plugged into can supply.
Hubs and adapters normally don't show up as icons on the screen. System Settings->General->About-> scroll down to System Report... and click USB under the hardware menu. The adapter should show up there if it is recognized by the system.
MBA = Macbook Air. Right ?
A storage device called My Passport currently is plugged in.
Both ends of the cord from Passport to Satachi multiport are (I think) USB 2.
the cord from the multiport to the laptop is (I think) a thunderbolt.
System settings Thunderbolt/USB4-- 0 & 1 --
Although plugged, neither show as connected.
I plugged the charging cord into the laptop. Didn't change anything.
The multiport does not have its own power.
Should I try empowering it with a charger that connects to house electricity ?
Is the My Passport an SDD or a HDD (rotational HD)? Does it have its own power?
As you've already been told docks do not show up on the Desktop, only items plugged in to them.

What are you referring to here?

My guess is that's not a charger, but the power supply. Without its power supply, it may act as a limited non external powered unit.
Rephrasing the inquiry: Does the dock need to be "charged", that is, connected to a power source
other than the laptop. ?
( I was experimenting with the Passport. )
What I really need is for the dock to show me what is on an SD card. TBC .
I'll report in if further fumbling solves the task.

It's always best to have a self powered dock when connecting multi devices to it to avoid trying to draw too much power than the port can provide.
