Saving iPhoto Slideshow with Vintage Format

I made a slide show in iPhoto and I like the Vintage Prints play mode, but I cannot export the show and retain this format. When I select "export" the "slideshow" option is grayed out, so it simply saves the individual slides to My Projects. I can save this generic-looking sequence of pictures, but not the nice formatting of Vintage Prints. The same is true of any of the formatting options (Ken Burns, etc).

When I search for suggestions, none seem to reflect current software (2023). Thanks for suggestions.

Are you using iCloud Library?

Are you running a "referenced" library rather than a "managed" library?

Try the following in order as needed:

1 - As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. If it does't open your current library and try again.

2 - boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Yes, I used the default music. From the pulldown menu, I navigate: File --> Export --> 40 Photos.

The Export --> Slideshow option is grayed out.

The photo save option will save the 40 photos as a Project, but it not longer has the nice slideshow features.

When I export the slideshow from My Projects - that works fine - but it simply generates a movie of the relatively generic series of photos.

In the past (several years ago), I had been able to save a slideshow with Vintage Prints format and then export the slideshow to a movie that retained those nice presentation features. I wonder if this option was removed.

I had read the support document -- and looked at it again. It did not help me. Thanks for any suggestions.

To export a slideshow as a video, try to click the Export button in the Toolbar.

See the paragraph "Export slideshows" in this support document: Export photos, videos, slideshows and memories in Photos on Mac – Apple Support (UK)

You may not be able to save the slideshow as a video, if you have used music as a backing track, that is protected. Did you use Apple Music as a backing track?
