I have a SimpleTech 160 external hard drive, which I used to put photos on last summer. I plugged it into my MacBook Pro yesterday and while the hard drive shows up I can't open it - it show is there is nothing there, yet when I click on information is indicates that of 160 GB I have 79 GB free to use. Why am I not seeing what I put there?

launch Disk Utility and attempt to Repair-Disk/First-Aid.
Let us know what it says.
Ok, that says you can READ the files on that drive.
Now open it and look at the folders inside and NetInfo on a folder, to see if you can read the main folders.

MacOS extended Volume, directory is good, and your status window says the drive is mounted.
what are the permissions on the drive?

I did n the disk repair/first aide and still nothing - see the report
Ok so I did it and this is what I got
OK...so I unlocked the the drive and opened the it but there is nothing there yet it says there is only 76 GB available
