Time Machine says that my GDrive mobile USB backup is too full. I'd like to erase it but cannot.

First remove the drive as a backup disk from your Time Machine settings.


The open Disk Utility and under the View menu choose Show All Devices.


For the disk you want to erase, select the uppermost name of the drive, this is the name of the hardware device (not a container and not a volume, but the higher level device itself).


Select erase. You may have to wait for a while, give it at least 10 minutes. Usually it takes a minute or so but sometimes can take longer.
