during the waiting period of 12 days to recover the apple ID, shall i use my phone number on android device?

I got a new number few days back. That number was used by another person and he created appled id with that number. I am the current owner of the phone number. when i contacted the apple support, they gave 12 days waiting period. during this waiting period , i need to switch off my iphone( they suggested). during this period shall i use my number on android phone?
