If you have an existing printer installation for this printer, remove it.
If you haven't already, download and install/reinstall the latest software package from the Canon website for that printer. Canon has many PIXMA printers, be sure you get the right model's package.
Then Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple Support. Choose OS 12

There are 1,666 Canon printers on that list but none of them are "PIXMA". Can you provide a more accurate model designation? For example: List of AirPrint Compatible Canon Printers

I can assure you that most Canon Pixma printers work fine with a Mac. I have a Pixma 7520 that's worked well for many years. (But it would have helped if you'd provided the printer model number). There are, however, some Pixma printers that are not compatible with MacOS.
