If you subscribe to Microsoft 365, that includes Word and all of the Office apps. You don't need an additional subscription for Word.

If you subscribe for Microsoft 365 directly through Microsoft, you don't need to purchase a subscription through Apple. You can sign into Office apps on your Apple devices using your Microsoft user ID and password.
