how to sort photos by names?

I have more than 25.000 photos carefully arranged and organized in folders and named with sequential numbers which guarantee(d) a correct order in slideshows (e.g. in Graphicconverter). Now I want to present these photos on an iPad 4 in exactly this order. How can I provide this?

Apple Photos sorts only by date; with HashPhotos (which I was told would sort by file names) I get titles instead of names, but I am not able to produce a sequence based on file names (with sequential numbers).

What can I do?

I hate Apple Photos, because

  • I don't want my images to be sorted chronologically,
  • nor do I want to use music in slideshows.
  • And I need to control image changes manually.

Any help is appreciated!

I just stumbled on this post. My recommendation would be to use the A Better Finder Rename and A Better Finder Attributes applications (https://www.publicspace.net/, https://www.youtube.com/@frankreiff/featured). In the A Better Finder Rename software, you can manually arrange your images in your preferred order and assign an order number to the filenames. Then, in the A Better Finder Attributes software, you can use that order number to assign date and time increments. Next, you can use the A Better Finder Rename software to remove the order numbers. And voila, your photos will display in your preferred order in Apple Photos. This software discovery has been a lifesaver for me. Hope this helps.

On your iPad there is no automatic way to sort the photos by the filename. You have to arrange the photos in the album by dragging them manually into the order you want. Or copy the filename to the caption of the photo and then use some third-party app that can sort by the filename.

When I want to present a slideshow and be able to control the presentation I am using Keynote, with on photo per slide.

On a Mac you can sort the photos by the title, not by the filename either. The only version of photos where we could sort by the filename has been Photos 4 on Mojave, the best version of Photos ever. If a photo had no title, it would use the filename as a default title when sorting the photos.
