Various vendors offer Touch ID as a shortcut to opening their apps. Currently, I have an iPhone SE and an aging IPad, each with home buttons. As Apple phases out home buttons is there a solution in the works for launching apps easily like Touch ID does for home button equipped devices?

The apps that support Touch ID will also support Face ID on devices without an actual home button.
The process for them is the same, the iOS is the one to determine wether ir requests your fingerprint or face.

I have many apps on my iPhone that use Face ID or Touch ID depending on which is supported by the device. Face ID works very well for them and easier than Touch ID for me. It is up to developer but so far all of the apps that I use that supported Touch ID also support the Face ID option
Every single app I've ever used before FaceID that used TouchID now uses FaceID, which to me if far superior to TouchID. Do not fear moving to a new iPhone with FaceID. It works great.
Apple is eliminating home buttons that I use to open apps that have Touch ID. Is there a planned solution for launching those apps short of using name and password?
