can iphones get viruses

I opened a link on accident which took my to a page with my iCloud email. The next day I started getting random vibrations on my phone even when I wouldn’t get notifications. The vibrations wouldn’t appear in any pattern or with any notifications. Just random sporadic vibrations. Does anybody know the cause of this?

iPhone 12 mini, iOS 16

"You can absolutely get viruses on iPhone. It’s just that it is very unlikely that by following that link you got a virus."

Viruses on an iPhone:

You're not going get a virus on your iPhone. If anything of suspicion, it is that is has been hacked (IOW: Jailbroken):

Securing your iPhone:

A. About a Hacked iPhone:

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine if it has been hacked, unless you know that it has been jailbroken. And, the only way for an iPhone to have hacked is if it has been jailbroken.

So, what to do...

B. Reset your iPhone to Factory Settings:

Having tampered with this app, then reset you iPhone to factory settings, as if you were to sell it. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Perform as instructed there, including the backup creation and iCloud logout.

Based on your description it would be almost impossible for you to get a virus on your iPhone. Unless, you have jailbroken it. iPhones operate under a Secure Enclave. Secure enclaves, also known as Trusted Execution Environments or TEEs, are sets of security-related instruction codes built into new CPUs. They protect data in use by enforcing a provably secure environment that is inaccessible by other applications, users, or processes colocated on the system. All data is encrypted in memory and decrypted only while being used inside the CPU, and the data is still completely protected. This again, makes it almost impossible to be infected by a virus on an iPhone.

OK. Let's put this to rest.

Is it possible for an iPhone to get a virus? Yes. There is a non-zero probability that you will get a virus on your phone, even if it is not jailbroken. There is also a non-zero probability that monkeys will come flying out of my bung-hole...

There are no known viruses in the wild that can infect an iPhone that has not been jailbroken.

If you didn't jailbreak your phone, don't stress over it.
