Tips on using a security key on a MacBook Pro

I've read a couple of articles that recommend using a physical security key. For now, I use a 2016 MacBook Pro that runs macOS 12.6.8. I'm thinking of trading up to a new machine with the M2 chip. I'm just wondering whether such a device will be of any real value to a home user.

I also use an iPhone 13 Pro Max, for what that's worth.

I don't think so.

What exactly do you feel you need greater security for? I'm all in favor of security, but there are different threats to consider: data loss, spam prevention, scam recognition and prevention, theft deterrent, fires, floods and etc.

Also, as security increases, convenience and user friendliness decreases.

It's very difficult to recommend a "fix" if we don't know what threats you feel you are actually facing.

Yeah, more security means more inconvenience. I’m not looking to fix anything … yet. I haven’t experienced data loss or theft … yet. I tend to go for gadgetry, and I suppose that’s one reason I’m curious about security keys. My instincts tell me these things would be overkill for someone like me. There’s also the risk of losing my keys … . Yikes! So I’m just looking to hear from people who’ve actually used security keys. Thanks!
