Installation of iCloud for Windows - Error during Authentication

I get an authentication error when I launch iCloud for windows. I have followed the suggestions on If you can't download or install iCloud for Windows - Apple Support.

When I launch iCloud for windows, it prompts me for username/password. I enter those and then go to my iPhone. I click allow, get the 6-digit verification code and enter that into the iCloud app. That app gives a busy icon for about 5 secs and then displays "An error occurred during authentication. Please try again." I have tried this several times.

iTunes installed without an issue and connects to my Apple account. This is a new Dell laptop with Windows 11. It is up to date on Windows updates. It is connected to my Microsoft account. I verified Media Player is working. I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, visited the Microsoft Store link and reinstalled the app from there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It turns out I could also see a similar problem by simply opening www.icloud.com in a windows browser. I found a workaround. I was able to disable IPV6 for my Wifi NIC through the windows control panel (https://youtu.be/fN78V6MNeaE?si=SJXAaX7jppDTYM6r) and iCloud works like a champ - both the browser issue and the iCloud app.

I just got off a support chat with my laptop manufacturer's support - Dell. They conclude that this is an Apple problem with a number of different Windows environments. They said I have to wait on Apple for a fix which they think might be a month or two. Dell did not think I would see any big issues simply leaving IPV6 disabled.

This has been going on for over a week now. I ran into the same issue you did. So far, Apple has blamed Comcast and pretty much everyone else. The only consistent way I've found to connect is via Firefox. All the other Windows 11 browsers fail at some point and the App is purely hit and miss.

Oh, and last week Apple said they were doing maintenance and to be patient. FWIW - I'm on a Dell PC, Windows 11 Pro and it's up-to-date.
