No.

The warning everyone is making a big deal about is for any rechargeable device ever made.

Don't sleep on it, don't cover it with blankets or charge it where it is not on a solid surface with good airflow.

iPhone Potentially Causing Fires:

Perhaps. I could see that scenario being the case, if it the battery were to corrode, and left atop something prone to fire (i.e. paper towel).

• Place it Atop: a Laptop Cooler

Troubleshooting an Overheating iPhone:

Perform the following:

A. Close All Apps:

These Apps may be open. So, save what need be, and then close all apps. Hold you finger down as you swipe up form the bottom-left corner of your screen. Then, close all of these open apps, by sweeping up quickly for all apps.

B. Perform a Force Restart:

C. Cool Down the iPhone:

For a few hours, perform the following...

• Power Off: the iPhone for a bit

See if you need to clear lots of space. System resources may be using up too much services, making it overheat. Internal storage cannot be upgraded.
