DELL S72721S MONITOR & MAC mini M2 VENTURA

COMPATIBILITY: DELL s72721S & MAC mini (apple keyboard) are they compatible?

a) Apple Support suggested that the function keys will not work on with a non Apple display it this correct eg brightness & volume control function keys? So no adjustment possible using the Mac (keyboard or settings)?

b) Great difficulty in getting good colour rendering, brightness & contrast matching to give acceptable quality for photos, safari and script when compared to my very old iMac or using old tv as a monitor (Dell settings seem inadequate).

i) Poor grey/black script and tab definition ie no contrast dividing multi tab headings meaning that it is more difficult to select a particular tab in a window or detail on maps etc. Grey fonts difficult to see - 'whiteout'/brightness problem?

ii) Poor facial tones in photos ie very red and not able to adjust on Dell without losing clarity or darkening whole image.

c) Neither Apple nor Dell support have been able to help much with these queries. Maybe someone else has solved the problems? Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance, John

That is correct, to adjust the brightness you will need to use the Displays OSM.

b) Great difficulty in getting good colour rendering, brightness & contrast matching to give acceptable quality for photos, safari and script when compared to my very old iMac or using old tv as a monitor (Dell settings seem inadequate).

You'll have to try the different macOS supplied Color Profiles until you find one that best suits your liking. Then possible make slight changes to the Displays Color using the OSM.

i) Poor grey/black script and tab definition ie no contrast dividing multi tab headings meaning that it is more difficult to select a particular tab in a window or detail on maps etc. Grey fonts difficult to see - 'whiteout'/brightness problem?

Make sure that the Display Contrast is set to Normal in the Accessibility > Display > Setting and then adjust the Displays Contrast using the OSM. I have the same issue with my Samsung Displays and have to run their brightness down to between 40 & 50% using the OSM to prevent washing.

ii) Poor facial tones in photos ie very red and not able to adjust on Dell without losing clarity or darkening whole image.

same answer as b) You'll have to try the different macOS supplied Color Profiles. Then possible make slight changes to the Displays Brightness and Color using it's OSM.

There is no easy solution. Sadly it takes a lot of manual tinkering to find a happy place.

At this point, I suggest starting out with a comfortable brightness setting on the display, check to make sure that Contrast is set to Normal in the macOS settings. Then start rolling thru the different macOS Color Profiles until you find the best one. Noting that each Color Profiles may require readjusting the brightness.
