Address bar goes blank in Safari

Whenever I enter a website address into the search bar in Safari or click on a bookmark in the Favourites bar, the page I have selected will begin to load for a split second, then the address bar will go blank and the Tab I have open will also remain blank as if I have just opened a new Tab.

In order to get a webpage to load, I often have to enter the website address a second time, or click on a bookmark a second time.

My software is all up to date, still having this issue.
