My Safari Bookmarks are FireFox bookmarks?

When I export my Bookmarks to my desktop they appear with a FireFox icon. I have used FF in the past but it currently is no longer used. I want to begin using Chrome so wanted to import my bookmarks into that browser but what I download from Safari is NOT what I see in Safari.

None of this makes any sense to me, so if anyone can shed some light on this I would be very grateful.

Thank you!

P.S. For months Safari I have not been able to prevent it from displaying the status bar. I am now wondering if this may be connected to the bookmarks problem?

It just means the .html extension is associated with Firefox. They're still your exported Safari bookmarks.

If you want to fix it, right click on that item and choose Get Info. In the palette that pops up, click on the drop down menu under the Open with heading and choose Safari. Then click the Change All button.

My guess is you set FF as the default browser at one time and that still stands. It Doen't matter if you actively use the app or not for this to happen.

If you insist on installing chrome, do so and set it as the default browser.

All the FF html file is there for is to allow the existing bookmarks to be imported into Chrome. The name of the file is inconsequential.

Thank you for your comments.

I still have an issue because the favorites bar I see on Safari is as follows:

and what I see in Chrome is as follows:

They are not the same. Oddly, yesterday I opened my MBPro and saw that the 'Electronics Info' bookmarks folder was missing. I do a lot of Arduino making and that folder is CRUCIAL to my work, so seeing it missing was a shock to say the least. The bookmarks.plist is now backed up.

Back on topic - what I had to do was to copy the bookmarks.plist file from my iMac and replace the the one on the MBPro. This restored the missing folder. So now I am exporting/importing this same bookmarks.plist file into Chrome and it does not match what I see in Safari? I do not understand how this can be.

Thanks again for your help.
