setting up new ipad software update glitch

setting up new ipad. It did connect with the old ipad. After an hr it appeared to be partially set up. Couldn't really tell but it Was running a software up date that after waitting one hr it said it had 6 hrs to go so I stopped that. and closed the page open on the old ipad. now it is running thru the set up menus and says update can't happen because not connected to internet.....I don't know what to do.
