What’s an Apple TV?

Hi. Im new to the iPhone family for just a few months now & to me, there’s a lot more to these phones & im definitely unsure of many things & how they actually work, & what’s best for me & my home. So my ? Now is, what exactly is Apple TV? Would it work w/ my Samsung Series 7 TV or is it something else? And, what’s HomeKit? How do I get it it &/or set it up in my home. Do I need WIFI w/ Apple TV,HomePod or the mini… im a bit lost & do not know how each of these devices works & what’s best for me in my home. To be honest, I don’t hardly know anything of much when it comes to my iPhone & this ? I’ve asked & much more

Can be kinda confusing

  1. Apple TV, a hardware streaming box similar to the Roku box where apps can be downloaded for streaming such as Netflix, Max, Paramount+, etc.
  2. Apple TV, an app by Apple that aggregates content. The Apple TV app can be installed on several platforms and smart TVs
  3. Apple TV+, Apple's original content streaming service that is part of the Apple TV app. Apple TV+ is a subscription service much like the aforementioned Netflix, HBO Max and others.
  4. HomeKit, a software framework that allows the control of lights, outlets, any kind of accessories that can be remotely controlled by the user. A third party device that is HomeKit certified will work with Apple products like the iPhone to control lighting, smart thermostats, electrical outlets, etc.

If your Samsung TV supports it the Apple TV app can be download and installed on it. You'd need to check with Samsung if your model is compatible. Many are.
