Car Play - No Audio Prompts in Maps During Phone Calls
Hi All,
Please read the entire post before replying. I will try to be very detailed.
Device: iPhone 14 Pro
iOS: 16.6
Car: 2019 Ford Explorer Limited Edition
Infotainment: Sync 3.0 V3.4xx
Background:
I recently switched from Android (Samsung Galaxy S21 - Android V13) to iPhone and I love it.
The issue I will detail here doesn't happen on the android and I am trying to figure out if this is a bug in iOS or an intentional limitation or something specific to my newly activated iPhone (about 1 week prior to this post).
ISSUE:
When using either Apple Maps or Google Maps in CarPlay I can hear the audio prompts clearly and with no issues. However, when a phone call is in session, I cannot hear the audio prompts at all. as soon as the call ends, the audio prompts resume.
This issue occurs only when I connect the phone with a cable to the car (it's the only way to get CarPlay on the screen in this model).
To further test the issue, I tried connecting the phone via BT (with no cable). Then started navigation on the phone. I tested both Apple Maps and Google Maps. During the navigation I made a phone call, and I was able to hear both the call and the navigation prompts.
I can confirm that the mute button (icon of speaker) on the maps indicates it is unmuted (top option) - which means sound should be heard. I tried muting and unmuting but that didn't do anything.
Just to clarify again, the audio prompts disappear during a call when using CarPlay only (USB-Lightening cable). I also tried replacing a few cables but to no success.
As I mentioned above, when using an Android device, I can hear both the call and the prompts in both BT connection as well as USB connection (Android Auto).
I called apple support and they recommended to reset the device to factory defaults and test it without restoring the backup. Honestly, I feel that this should really be the last resort after confirming the issue is pertaining to my device only rather than a bug in the OS or hardware.
My questions are:
- Is this the expected behavior?
- Can anyone here confirm if it works on your system?
- Alternatively, anyone else experience this behavior?
- Any other suggestions to troubleshoot this issue?
Thanks In advance
Eyal
