What happens if my product is available for in-store pickup too early?

Hello, I ordered a MacBook from Apple Online Store. I chose specific day to place my order so that my product is available for pickup at Apple Store on the 18th of September. I’m planning to go there on the 20th, but I wanted to make sure it is ready by then. Today, on the 2nd of September, I saw that my device is already being shipped to the store. What would happen if it becomes available for pickup way too early? I will not be in the same city where the store is until the 18th. Or maybe the shipment will really take so many days as it is a special configuration?

This thread is over a year old, but the solution now, as it was then, is:

Contact Apple and make certain they will extend the pickup window and hold it for you beyond the 'ordinary' 7-day holding period.

For anyone having similar issue in the future: my product became available on the 8th of September and they initially gave me time to pick it up until the 14th. I called Apple's hotline and a very kind lady extended my pickup window until the 18th. However, I really wanted to make sure it will wait for me until the end of the day, so later on I called the store directly and a very nice gentleman extended it once again, with absolutely no problem, until the 19th, so that my MacBook will definitely wait for me until the end of 18th of September. What a great customer experience! Don't ever hesitate to call Apple if you're facing any trouble. 🙂

These computers are often shipped from overseas, which can take a week or more.

I would telephone the specific Apple Store and make sure they will hold the new computer there for you to pick up on the day you plan to be there. I expect that they will.

If they won't, you will get your payment refunded and can start the process over again. I have generally had new Apple products shipped to me directly, which avoids this issue.

Thank you so much for your answer. I had this clue on mind that they ship from overseas, as well, so I'm glad you kind of confirmed that. In this case I'm unable to provide a home address since I'll be on holiday in different country and there is my Apple Store for this pickup. I will call the store directly if the product is ready way too early. Once again, thank you and I wish you a wonderful day!
