Any way to STOP apps from taking over AW screen?

Hello,

I have an Ultra. I need it to (by default) ALWAYS tell me the time... WITHOUT my having to free up a hand to close, and/or wade through, all of the apps that keep automatically opening on it (most notably the #$&@# calendar).

In other words, please: I just want my Ultra to tell me the time... every time (and any time) I look at it.

And yup, I have use for many of the apps on it... but I want them to be relegated to ONLY taking over the screen when I conjure them up... not whenever it is that they seem to think that I need to see them.

I've tried: turning off notifications, removing apps, closing an app after I've used it... but still, things keep regularly, and routinely, getting in the way of what I need my AW to do most... show me the time, at a glance, without my having to interact with it.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

IPhone, Watch app, My Watch, General, Return to clock.

The general setting should be 2 minutes but change it to Always.

If that does not fix it, for any app that constantly does this (eg Compass is a common culprit) in the list of apps below

in "When in Session" section,

turn off "Return to app" for that app

you can force quit any app...

Press and hold side button until the Medical ID and SOS screen appears.

Then press and hold Digital Crown til the clock face appears

Or  if the side button is set up to show recents, press it briefly, find the app, swipe it left, tap the big red X

Thanks LD150... and sincerely so!

And yes, the issue has become so freaking pervasive that I'm now actively considering getting a Garmin... just because I need my watch to be, first and foremost, a reliably viewable timepiece.

But again, many thanks for your clearly communicated advice (the steps were very much appreciated) and I'll give them a try!
