samsung odyssey G9 dual monitor mode on macbook Pro M1-Pro Monterey

I am trying to use my samsung odyssey G9 in dual monitor mode (PIP).

My mac doesn't detect two monitors when connected via dell docking station, it always duplicates the same screen on both sides.
I could use as dual monitors when I connect one input directly to my Mac, but the problem is that it assigns random monitors, so about 90% of the time I had to manually rearrange for proper left-right combination.
On Windows I could use both monitors as one large window so I am not really missing the use of one single monitor. On the other hand this feature sucks when I used the work arond by disabling Displays have separate spaces.

I don't see these issues on Windows 11, dual monitor config directly works from the dock and windows always arranges both screens in the right order and I could still use both screens as one full window.

These issures are probably related to Monterey, but I am stuck with this version. Any suggestions?

Picture-in-picture is just a special case of two displays.

The Mac can support TWO displays on one cable ONLY when the port, the cable, and the first device (Dock or Display) are guanine ThunderBolt.

if you like the way the Dell docking station works on Windows, then use it on Windows. That's what it was built for.

Macs have higher standards.

Is this is the entry-level 13-in MacBook Pro M-series?

The Dell WD19S 180W dock is sold as a USB-C Dock. Unless it has the ThunderBolt module installed, it is limited to USB-C bandwidth of 20 G bits/sec, enough to properly support one 4K display and no more. ¿Does its captive lead-in cable have the ThunderBolt symbol on it?

Your display appears to be a 5K display with one HDMI 2.0 and two DisplayPort inputs, supporting Picture-in-Picture for two display 'halves' on two cables.

HDMI 2.0 available on your MacBook Pro M1 Pro 2021 can connect up to a 4K display on one HDMI cable. [MacBook Pro 2023 models could support that display over HDMI directly]

DisplayPort for a 5K display requires a Thunderbolt connection for one cable, because the data rate required exceeds the capability of a single USB cable's 20 G bits/sec.

if your Mac places the default half-display on the wrong side 90 percent of the time, then swap the cables at your Mac, and it should be down to 10 percent by your reckoning. The Mac determines unique display by serial number, in the VESA-approved field. You can check whether the display provides any differentiation between the two halves by:

 Menu > about this Mac > (system report) > graphics & displays

Hi Grant, thanks for your response. Its a Macbook Pro (16-inch, 2021) Apple M1 Pro chip. I am using Dell Dock – WD19S 180W which is a thunderbolt 3 docking station. I am more interested in getting thigs working and stay productive with the resources I was given at work. Its okay if the dock is not supported, could you answer the other two questions?

This is what I see under Graphics/Displays, both displays are recognized as C49RG9x which may be the problem.

Also, I checked Thunderbolt/USB4 section where I don't see any device connected which probably confirms that the dock is not thunderbolt.
