2019 iMac - Runs slow after Ventura OS update

A few months back I updated my 2019 iMac OS to Ventura. Immediately after the update my computer took longer to boot up and it started to operate slowly across the board. I was hoping that the issue would resolve it self over time with a new update.

I am currently on Ventura 13.4.1. Open to your recommendations and thank you in advance!

Your mac only has a very slow 5400rpm hard drive. This would never work great (and shame on Apple for selling a Mac with this poor drive for such a long time...).

To make matters worse, as per the report, the drive appears to be failing:

Failing hard drive - This computer has a hard drive that appears to be failing.

If you plan on using this mac for a good while yet, I recommend that you get yourself a nice external SSD, and use that as your boot drive. The performance will be significantly better, plus you cannot trust that failing drive anyway.

By going external, you avoid a lot of hassle - and cost - involved in replacing that internal drive.
