MESSAGE ICON MISSING ON MAC DESKTOP

I had the message icon yesterday and today I cannot see it to open it.

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Look on your Dock or in your Applications folder.

You can have Messages on your desktop, but that's messy and you should use the Dock instead.

Is the 2012 Mac Mini obsolete? I have a Mac Mini 2012 and recently I get a blank dialog box when trying to read Facebook Messenger messages. Any ideas? I have cleared history and still nothing. It just started happening this week. HELP!
