When I take a screenshot in Ventura, it's a .png and it should go into a OS-created folder called "Screenshots" on desktop. Any other images, like. jpgs go into another OS-created folder "Images". Has anyone any idea why they're going in 'Images' and not 'Screenshots'? I'm sure it used to do it properly a few OS versions ago. It is also impossible to move them manually from "Images" to "Screenshots."

Press shift+cmd+5 to open the Screen Shot control panel in the lower left of your Desktop. Click its Options menu and confirm that Desktop is selected. Press Esc to dismiss this panel.
Right-click on your Desktop (not on the Images stack) and from the secondary menu click Use Stacks to disable it. Then right-click on the Desktop and select Use Stacks again. Also, confirm that Group Stacks By > Kind is set. Are all Screen Shots now organized in the Screen Shots stack?
If not, have you changed the name format of the Screen Shot image to something else. The Screen Shots stack may be keying off the name Screen Shot that it expects in the filename, and changing the name may cause stacks to think it is an image instead.

Stacks are not folders... they are just a way that the Finder shows files grouped in some way; and we have no say on what goes where.
I suggest that you create an actual folder called "Screenshots" in your Desktop, then press Command-Shift-5, click the Options button and then choose that folder as your location to save the screenshots.
The screenshots are going to the Desktop, not Images or Screenshots.
With Use Stacks enabled, like items are "stacked" together.
It is probably using metadata to determine whether it is a screenshot or just a regular image file. Perhaps that metadata was lost for the screenshots that go into Images.
Since Stacks are essentially a search folder, you cannot manually move things.
I was actually able to move screenshots out of the "Images" stack. I couldn't move it directly into the "Screenshots" stack, but I created a manual folder "Screenshots" and successfully moved them there. That at least removes the clutter in the "Images" stack. New screenshots are properly assigned to the "Screenshots" stack.
Thanks for the suggestions. No, it didn't help to disable and re-enable "Use Stacks" option. Also, I did not change anything regarding screenshot names. At this point, it saves all new screenshots properly. It is just that I can not clean the "Images" stack by moving screenshots out of it. I suspect that, during a recent OS upgrade, some screenshots were randomly added to the "Images" stack. I say "randomly" as I can not detect any particular logic, as it contains some recent screenshots, as well as some old ones (but also not all old ones, nor all recent ones).
