Unable to send a new mail message from MAC using Xfinity mail

On my MacBook Air, I'm unable to compose a new message and send it successfully. However, I can forward a message and reply to a message successfully. I'm able to receive all email as well. Very strange. I'm using xfinity email. I've tried removing the mail account and adding it back several times. My iphone seems to be fine and I've compared the settings.

I've had Comcast/xfinity since about 1990.

As long as I use the web mail by logging into the website, mail works fine. But, for as long as I've used local apps to use Comcast/xfinity I've had constant problems. Usually that takes the form of my password suddenly not being accepted. Then 10 minutes later it works just fine. This is a constant occurrence.

My solution was to abandon Comcast in favor of Yahoo. Unlike many, my Yahoo accounts have all worked exceeding well. I have a Comcast account for the primary use only for them to send me notices. I never use it for active emailing.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd use iCloud mail for everything.

Its a Macbook Air (2020) I'm using default mail program. Comcast Xfinity is the service provider. When I compose a new message and send, the recipient does NOT receive it. However, if I reply or forward a message in my inbox to the same recipient, they do receive it. I'm able to receive mail. Firewall is "inactive". Comcast is configured on my iphone and I can send and receive with no problem.
