I have No password for my new MacBook Air , but my Touch ID Was enabled. Now I’m locked out???

I have a new MacBook Air and immediately I set up the Touch ID. This worked for several days. However, today it is asking for my password to the laptop- which I NEVER created!!

“your password is required to enable Touch ID”

I tried my Apple ID but to no avail.

What do I do? Thanks

MacBook Air 15″, macOS 13.4

If you bought a truly new Mac, you'd have gone through the initial setup. One required step is the creation of a local password.

If you had no initial setup screen, you bought a used Mac that was not properly setup for resale. If that's the case, you need to take it back to the seller and have it set up properly.

Touch ID is not intended to replace the password. There are times you must enter the password.
