Wondering what kind of Gift Card you had, and whether the balance may actually be in your Apple ID account.
Although there is now a new Apple Gift Card that can be used for everything Apple in many countries:
App Store and iTunes Gift Cards are often used separately from Apple Store Gift Cards.
