Spinning wheel in Pages application

Suddenly I'm getting the spinning colourful wheel in Pages app, when I open and go to edit. Never happened before.

How to fix this?

I've also downloaded a few more apps (Evernote, OneNote) and have the quite a few more icons on my sidebar on Desktop. Perhaps this is slowing things down?

I have a Macbook Pro 10.15.7, Catalina (mid 2012)

Hi! Thank you so much for your helpful reply!

I rebooted my Mac. (I also used CleanMyMac, and First Aid in Disk Utility).

I quit all my Applications. I even un-installed many Apps (via CleanMyMac), including Pages app.

Though I did not know about Press + Hold Shift-key when launching Pages (I'll keep that in mind next time - thank you).

After all of the above, it did not resolve the spinning wheel - BUT I noticed it was THAT particular Pages document, not the others. So, I just duplicated that document, and I was able to work on the new copy without any spinning wheel and without changing anything on the document. Weird! Maybe there was some disruptive formatting or images that were causing trouble on that particular Pages doc.

Your message was super helpful - to know for next time if it happens.

Cheers,

Reboot your Mac. Formally quit all applications via their File menu. Press and hold the shift-key when launching Pages and see if it opens normally. If the Pages document you are attempting to open is on iCloud or another cloud service, the network health between the remote site and your Mac may cause a delay in loading the document and cause the spinning wait wheel.
