Can Lightning port be powered/charged with USB-Lightning adapter and USB cable?

I ask this wherefore the market for USB cables (whether A, C, etc.) is greater than for USB-Lightning cables so it’ll be easier to find a specific and strong design unlike Apple’s defective cables. The problem is all of the adapters I found don’t mention power and some say OTG which implies power use, not supply. It should be trivial to turn a cable adapter into a socket adapter.
