How to upload photos on older MacBook Pro to iCloud

Trying to merge pictures from an old MacBook Pro (circa 2005) to my current MacBook Air. When I try to sign into iCloud from the older computer, a new window pops up telling me an Apple ID verification code is required and to "type the password followed by the verification code shown on your other devices" with only an OK button, no where to type code. I tried clicking OK and adding the 6-digit number code directly after my Apple ID password, but then I'm told my Apple ID password is incorrect. Any ideas? Or is there a better way to move the entire Iphoto library to a new computer? The computer is so old the iPhoto icon has the photo with a camera in front of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm scared to lose all these years of photos.

Since your MacBook Air already is integrated with the iCloud Library your easiest method would be to merge your library from your old MacBook into the library of the MBA. If you try to connect to iCloud Library on your old MacBook you would have to also wait for the photos in the iCloud library to be downloaded into your MacBook Library.

You can merge the library into the MBA library with either Photos or the paid version of PowerPhotos. They import differently. Here's a comparison of the two types of imports/merges:

PowerPhotos: Photos:

Albums -----------

Smart Albums (as regular albums) -----------

Folders -----------

Captions Captions

Titles Titles

Original images Original images

Edited images Edited images

--------------- Locations

Favorites Favorites

Can detect and exclude Duplicates detect after import

duplicates or not during import

Neither method included projects.

Both methods could import older iPhoto libraries into a Photos library when the iPhoto library couldn't be migrated into a Photos library.

Hi AndreaHutch,

We understand you need help with moving your photo library and we can help.

It sounds like you're taking the correct steps to login. Try to generate a two-factor code on your newer device and then enter your password with the code attached to the end of the password in the password field:

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication

Some other options if would be to use the Migration Assistant to transfer your data:

Transfer to a new Mac with Migration Assistant

Another option is to save the iPhoto library to a USB drive and import it on your new Mac:

Import photos from another library in Photos on Mac
