home pad won't play my music

the home pod speakers are beautiful and they have great sound. i would like to use them to listen to music. i don't want to control my house. i bought 2 home pods because i thought it would sound good in stereo. but no, all you want to do is control my house. from the company who's motto was, "it just works" i don't understand why i have so much trouble just listening to music.

can someone explain how i can use the home app to listen to music?

i am trying my best to remain polite, but i can tell you i am totally ****** off. but okay, i will take a deep breath and try to concentrate. however, i must add that i am not computer illiterate and i have been using apple products for 20 years, but i have never encountered a product as frustrating as the home pod. i am ready to throw them out the window and just buy a couple of bose bluetooth speakers... but, of course, they are twice as expensive. maybe for good reason, because at least i know i can buy a bose speaker and take it home, plug it in and it will WORK!

ok, it only took a week, but when you put your mind to it, even the apple mysteries reveal themselves. you will not find this in the homepod user guide, but if you have used your homepods for awhile separately and you want to put them together in stereo mode and you can't get your computer or ios device to recognize one or the other of them, you have to restart the one that is not responding.

the previous answer was not correct because both homepods were working and could play together on airplay, but it wasn't in stereo. if you want to have stereo, you have to put the two homepods together in the same room and that can be impossible if one of the homepods is not being recognized.

there is a special way to do it that you couldn't possibly figure out by yourself: you have to unplug the faulty homepod for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and wait 10 seconds, then hold your finger on it without removing it until the cycle is finished. the light will turn on, then it will turn red, then you will hear a voice (siri, i suppose) tell you to keep holding it until you hear 3 beeps. when you hear the 3 beeps, you can lift your finger and you can install the homepod by simply holding your iphone near it for 30 seconds and it will install itself.

at that point, your home app will recognize that there are 2 homepods and it will ask you if you want to use them together in stereo mode! that's it, you have stereo homepods.

ok, well, as soon as i sent that message, my right home pod turned itself on and said it was installing itself. great! and then, when i clicked on the (very discreet) button below the music selection to pick the output device, i noticed that the left home pod was in the list and i just had to click on the button and it worked. why didn't your instructions explain that you just have to wait 10 minutes for the speaker to turn itself on?
