My bag got stolen. And the only copy of the recovery key is in there. And I don’t have a number at the moment coz the contract got cancelled. So I won’t be able to recieve an sms for a verification

Activation Lock is a hardware protection scheme.
You clear it by entering your AppleID password.

If you use Advanced Data Protection AND set up both a recovery key and a recovery contact, you can use either your recovery key or recovery contact to regain access to your account.

If none of these are available, your AppleID will remain permanently inaccessible.
You can then only possibly regain use of your device by submitting appropriate proof of ownership to Apple via an Activation Lock Support Request.
my whole problem with this is the File Vault Recovery Key. I was not informed of it’s true nature and now am left unable to work on MacBook Pro which has been sitting collecting dust for over a year now.
please don’t give me more details on this nonsense security measures I am just a normal student who simply was moving a little too fast and have to now live with the fact that I must either lose my data or make attempt to remember the password. Absolutely ridiculous can’t believe I spent hours of my life working to buy something that doesn’t work how I intended it to. I have been an apple consumer since I was a kid. That is so useless especially… there needs to be an easier solution for this. I also have an i phone X that has now been locked to the point where it’s saying it must be connected to i tunes. All over some passwords. The amount of valuable data in these devices that will be lost to resetting is mind blowing
You are correct that the volume of data in these devices IS “mind blowing.”
Which is why these security safeguards are in place.
If your devices had been stolen, you might not take such a dismissive view of the safeguards.
Forsure however that is not the case. I have proof of purchase. It is logged into my Apple ID, it has my picture on the profile. Even the stickers on the laptop belong to me. They just want me to pay drive-savers X amount of money to retrieve my Data.
is there anyway to retain the data that is stored on a laptop requiring a recovery key? all my photos and videos from 2014-2017 are stored on my laptop but i cant login because of the recovery key. this is apples fault
Please can you relate a helpful ones information on how to create a new recovery key if you still have the passcode remembered. In other words help me because i still remember/know my passcode hust have lost my recovery key! Thanks👊🏾
